Happy Valentine's Day

A few random things:

  1. I am super excited about my new book my parents gave me for Valentine's Day. Boy Meets Girl by Joshua Harris. Should be good!
  2. Is it special enough to send an ecard to my brother? I felt bad about the unspecialness of the cards I gave this year. :-( Not enough time to make cards.
  3. Valentine's Day is the most awkward holiday. Just sayin'
  4. I am having a romantic date with Aeschylus (who wrote the three works which constitute my homework) all day today and all night tonight. I want to break up with him right now....but you know...
  5. That is all.

Ten Questions....

I felt like having a little fun today, so I decided to answer ten questions about myself. Now all my readers get to see the wacky side of me! Have fun!

1.) If you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be?
World peace does not come from accepting each other, it comes from believing in Christ. He holds the keys to true and genuine peace.

2.) If you could have a room full of any one thing, what would it be?
Art supplies!!!! Paint, canvasses, paintbrushes, models, frames, clay, pencils, etc.

3.) What do you value most in other people?

Selflessness, and commitment to loving God first and then others.

4.) If you could only see black and white except for one color, what color would you choose to see?

Blue.

5.) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Two things, not one. First, my sin. Second, my numerically challenged brain: I want to be good at math!

6.) If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass on to your children, what would it be?

My flexibility, and the way I like every food I try....we would have no trouble over food then.

7.) What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?

Playing piano in front of people.

8.) Would you rather teach a young child to read or have to learn again for yourself?

Without a doubt, I would rather teach a young child to read! There are few things more delightful than teaching young children new things, and watching their faces light up when they finally understand.

9.) What is the best advice you've ever given and received?

Both are the same: Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.

10.) How would you like to die?

One of two ways: either as a martyr for Christ, or at age ninety by having a heart attack in mid-air while skydiving or base jumping....that way I would already be in the air when my spirit goes up to heaven. So cool!

That is all!

Heavenly Energy Drink...and Time Management Trainer

Yes, this is the most most random title for a post ever, but those two things are exactly what I need. Prayers would be greatly appreciated as I am struggling with managing my homework and other requirements, getting two to three hours of sleep every night, and I am coming down with something. I need a coffeeeeee!!!!! Actually, I am going to bed here, at the early hour of 8:30. Goodnight, world!

Beautiful by MercyMe (Lyrics)

What is Beauty? Pt. 2

You are beautiful because God made you that way...not because of your own merit, physical attractiveness, or anything of your own doing. Take comfort in that - that is true beauty.

Beautiful (by Mercyme)
The days will come when you don't have the strength
When all you hear is you're not worth anything
Wondering if you ever could be loved
And if they truly saw your heart they'd see too much

You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are made so much more than all of this
You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are treasured, You are sacred, You are His
You're beautiful

I'm praying that you have the heart to find
Cause you are more than what is hurting you tonight
For all the lies you've held inside so long
And they are nothing in the shadow of the cross

You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are made so much more than all of this
You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are treasured, You are sacred, You are His
You're beautiful

Before you ever took a breath
Long before the world began
Of all the wonders He possessed
There was one more precious
Of all the earth and skys above
You're the one He madly loves
Enough to die

You're beautiful
You're beautiful
In His eyes

You're beautiful
You were meant for so much more than all of this
You're beautiful
You are treasured, You are sacred, You are His
You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You're meant for so much more than all of this
You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are treasured, You are sacred, You are His

What is Beauty? Pt. 1

To be a beautiful woman, you must be about 5'8" and 120 or fewer pounds, have perfect skin with a natural-looking tan, no fat rolls, no hairs out of place, perfect fashion sense, and the right amount of curves. If you fail in one of these areas, you are not good enough.

That is the kind of beauty that the fashion industry and Hollywood are looking for. And when they find a woman like that, they photoshop her to look even better. They fix the shape of her neck, the way her clothes lie on her, any unwanted moles or similar features, etc. All of this for the perfect magazine cover, so we all get the idea of what true beauty is.

*PAUSE*
Notice that I used words like "not good enough," and "better." Those ideas must be lined up against some sort of standard. Who calls the shots? Taking away all the "middle men" and we get Satan. When he gets us to focus all our energy on one issue, to become depressed about our so-called shortcomings, and to spend time and money on the "perfection" he has designed, he has debilitated us as tools for God. It looks like Christian women in America need a standard of what true beauty looks like.

Have you ever read Proverbs 31:10-31? Beauty is only mentioned as a vain thing. Granted - physical beauty is, well,  a beautiful thing, but the real beauty is in a life that is lived to bless others. We cannot look like those women who dwell on magazine covers which say, in effect, "Ten ways to look like me (haha, you never can)." We should not be influenced by a culture that thinks more highly of a woman who has spent thousands of dollars on plastic surgery, than a woman who has wrinkles, grey hair, less-than perfect fashion, and a matronly figure, but is full of wisdom and virtue.

More to come...

For the Beauty of the Earth...

I LOVE this day!!!! As I walk from one class to the next, warm gusts of wind flow through the air, giving me a sudden urge to take my shoes off and sing at the top of my lungs. The sky is filled with beautiful clouds, and I wish I could fly. Going to go to my next class now, but in my mind I am a small child again - dancing and laughing my way through this glorious day! Enjoy yourselves today, folks!
